Lighting Design for Social Sustainability: Student Hub

Originally designed for Nokia’s corporate office, Building B at Aalborg University Copenhagen features Vandtorvet—a central lobby space anchored by a dry, unused indoor fountain. Despite high pedestrian traffic in the adjacent corridor, the fountain area remained a neglected, non-dominant "pass-through" space rather than a destination.

This project reimagines the unused fountain area as a vibrant, inclusive, and socially adaptable learning hub. By leveraging transformative lighting interventions, the design addresses both ecological sustainability through adaptive reuse and social sustainability by creating an environment that breaks down disciplinary silos, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, and makes the campus feel like "one big class."
